Why the waste factor matters more than the square count
A 25-square gable roof and a 25-square cut-up hip roof need very different material orders. Valleys force shingles to be cut and discarded; dormers break runs; hips consume ridge caps. Industry standard is 10% waste for simple gables, 15% for typical homes, and 20%+ for complex architecture — bidding without it means emergency material runs and lost margin.
